Anthony Braxton's Composition No.235 performed by Anthony Braxton, James Fei, Brian Glick, Chris Jonas, Steve Lehman, Seth Misterka, Jackson Moore, Kevin O’Neil, Seth Dellinger, Kevin Norton. Ghost Trance Music.
Compositions No. 235 and 236 were first performed during Verona Jazz, in Verona, Italy, exactly 6 months prior to the present recording. While the performances were stellar, the recording quality of the concerts was unsatisfactory, and the ensemble was reconvened for another live performance/recording at Wesleyan University. (Note: frustrated by repeatedly losing documentation of great performances to poor recordings, Braxton would hire his recording engineer, Jon Rosenberg, to travel with the ensemble for the Antwerp 2000 and Paris 2001 concerts).

Beautifully immersive sound experience. Not familiar enough with the mechanics of ZIM and the liner notes are pretty oblique about those but ample on the poetics and the humor (yes!) of this music. A high water mark for Braxton's music. Mr. Edison

Superb. What seems an implausible combination of instruments is in fact a great showcase for AB's sinuous saxophones. JK's harp sounds like a particularly rich guitar and her playing is virtuosic. Personally I think Anthony Braxton is at his best in these more intimate settings. This will likely be on my top ten list at end of year. arbitify
